Brooks leather saddle
The honey coloured Brooks Team Pro I bought off ebay arrived this morning. To break in, I am deciding whether to go with Sheldon Brown's suggestion of soaking it in oil or the more gentle approach of using Brooks own Proofhide. We will be snow bound for at least 2 more months, so I will have plenty of time to think about it before I ccan even test it.
This is my second Brooks saddle. The first came with my to-and-from-school Raleigh commuter circa 1979.
Update 28th April 2004
I didn't use neat's foot oil as suggested and mighty glad I didn't. For three nights in a row, I applied thick coat of proofhide to it and rub gently. On the third night, I hit it a bit with a rolling pin. It is now just as soft as I like it - slightly softer than a brick.
